"The first time we heard about microplastics being found in our lakes,

we felt the urge to do something about it."

Sebastian Porkert (CEO)

The idea for ECOFARIO was born in 2013 after more and more media reports had been published about the consequences of microplastics and the powerlessness of sewage treatment plants to filter them out of the water cycle. Together with friends who felt the same urge to find a solution to this problem, Sebastian Porkert continued to develop his original technology in the following years. In 2014, the team was awarded the Strascheg Award for the best scientific idea. Finally, the patenting of the technology was realized in 2018 and 2019 is completely focused on the first prototype plant.

Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Porkert (CEO)

  • Inventor of the technology and founder of the business idea

  • Head of the ECOFARIO team and responsible for key steps in product development and application engineering

  • Diploma and master's degree in paper technology from Munich University of Applied Sciences

  • Research associate and doctoral student at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, where he led research projects in the field of resource conservation in paper production (until 2015). To this day, he is working as a lecturer in this subject area.

Adrian Scholl (CFO)

  • In charge of finances as well as PR, marketing and sales

  • Completed his translation studies at the Sprachen und Dolmetscher Institut in Munich in 2008

  • Subsequently worked as business project manager at the Institute of Technical Literature

  • Since 2015, he has been enrolled at the Munich Business School for his MBA degree.

Stefan Tomme (Head of Application Technology)

  • Responsible for plant design, manufacturing and quality assurance with a focus on efficiency and sustainability

  • Trained IT system electronics specialist with a focus on quality assurance

  • In 2013 he completed his studies at the University of Applied Sciences Ulm in the field of energy systems

  • Active in the field of sustainable planning of photovoltaic systems in the private and commercial sector

Robert Krapez (Head of R&D)

  • Responsible for product development, design, simulation and prototype construction

  • Engineer in paper technology and mechanical engineering

  • With his focus on the optimal design of the components, it can be guaranteed that the components in the application case bring about the properties that were predicted by calculations. Thus, many iteration steps can be skipped in the actual prototype construction and precious time and production costs can be saved.

2014 – Winner of the Strascheg Award "Best Scientific Business Case"

"Our goal is to equip all wastewater treatment plants with our technology and thus to end the microplastic pollution of our waters!"
